I arranged the bookshelf in a cozy reading area where students explored the nonfiction library during our history \"Discovery Hour\" to study important figures like Harriet Tubman and pioneers of the California Gold Rush. During the reading session a small group eagerly studied a book about the Lewis and Clark expedition and mapped their route on chart paper while regularly sharing interesting details with their classmates. Students who required high energy input utilized colorful bouncy bands attached to their chairs to transform excessive energy into active listening during read-aloud sessions and group discussions.\r\n\r\nAs the boxes arrived the children excitedly realized their contents were not predictable stories but real events and people who shaped our world. Many students quickly chose their topics of choice while sharing with peers about the next facts they needed to read. The first excitement established the foundation for a week where students engaged in self-directed learning activities.\r\n\r\nWe capitalized on the student excitement to lead them in developing brief \"Living History\" presentations. Students each chose a nonfiction book to research and prepared a historical role-play by using homemade props and writing diary-entry scripts to develop their public speaking abilities. The use of accelerated reader quizzes helped us monitor student understanding and establish new nonfiction reading objectives for the upcoming grading period. Your contribution enabled us to fill our shelves and initiate a dynamic project that will extend students' curiosity and confidence beyond this school year.","fullyFundedDate":1565546482938,"projectUrl":"project/focusing-on-nonfiction-reading/4343740/","projectTitle":"Focusing on Nonfiction Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Katy Bailey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6599015_orig.png?crop=720,720,x0,y216&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1565470714518","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6599015"},{"teacherId":6599015,"projectId":4352632,"letterContent":"Your generous support allowed my students to engage completely with classroom technology by utilizing new headphones. In a 1: Our digital math, reading, science and intervention programs require sound which makes it essential in our 1:1 laptop learning environment. The programs deliver custom lessons while providing immediate feedback and use audio elements to strengthen important ideas. Because many students didn't have headphones access, they couldn't use the complete features of their educational tools which hindered their ability to take advantage of differentiated instruction. Once students wore their headphones they achieved uninterrupted concentration that enabled them to progress significantly in their academics throughout the day.\r\n\r\nStudents were thrilled when they could participate in their lessons fully through interactive audio directions alongside songs and stories. During independent work time this specific student faced challenges maintaining attention and completing tasks effectively. Having his own headphones allowed him to engage deeply with his work and finish his tasks independently without frequent guidance. A sense of independence and better concentration emerged among several students once they knew they possessed essential learning tools for success. Your financial support eliminated learning obstacles while granting all my students equal access to the instructional technology that forms the backbone of our daily classroom activities. We appreciate your assistance in unlocking the full functionality of our classroom tools to support meaningful student achievement.","fullyFundedDate":1565578367182,"projectUrl":"project/headphones-for-the-bailey-brigade/4352632/","projectTitle":"Headphones for the Bailey Brigade","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Katy Bailey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6599015_orig.png?crop=720,720,x0,y216&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1565470714518","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6599015"},{"teacherId":6599015,"projectId":6214623,"letterContent":"Thanks to this project and the support of generous donors, including those at DonorsChoose, my students were able to experience a new level of engagement and clarity in their math and science learning. The digital resources purchased through Teachers Pay Teachers were specifically designed to align with our standards and were both accessible and interactive—perfect for helping students stay on track during a challenging school year shaped by the pandemic. Many of my students come from homes where educational technology isn't readily available, so having access to these materials in the classroom made a real difference. These resources allowed me to differentiate instruction more easily and provide extra reinforcement in areas where students were struggling, especially in complex topics like multi-digit multiplication or the scientific method.\r\n\r\nWhat excited the students most was the game-like quality and colorful, student-friendly design of the new materials. Many of the activities felt more like puzzles or challenges than traditional schoolwork, which helped students build confidence while having fun. One student in particular, who previously showed very little interest in science, became especially engaged with a digital science escape room activity we downloaded through this project—he now regularly volunteers to explain scientific concepts to his classmates! This technology didn't just support instruction; it helped ignite a love of learning in students who needed it most. I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity to bring engaging, relevant tools into my classroom and help my students see that they are capable of mastering tough content with the right support.","fullyFundedDate":1649372374520,"projectUrl":"project/lets-create-math-masters-and-super-scien/6214623/","projectTitle":"Lets Create Math Masters and Super Scientists","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Katy Bailey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6599015_orig.png?crop=720,720,x0,y216&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1565470714518","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6599015"},{"teacherId":6599015,"projectId":7393022,"letterContent":"This project made a meaningful difference in how I was able to start the school year with my two classes of 4th grade Math and Science students. With nearly 50 students to support, the basic supplies provided helped us build a strong and organized foundation from day one. The pencils and high-quality sharpener ensured that students were always prepared to engage in their work without delays, and I was able to maintain smooth lesson transitions without constant interruptions to address missing materials. These seemingly simple tools created a more focused and productive classroom environment.\r\n\r\nThe clipboards gave students the flexibility to move around the room and engage in learning beyond the confines of their desks—especially during group activities, science experiments, and math stations. The pens allowed me to give immediate, visible feedback on student work, which helped reinforce concepts and improve understanding in real time. The lanyards kept student ID badges accessible and minimized distractions related to lost or misplaced items. Overall, this project enabled me to begin the year with confidence and organization, and it empowered my students to take responsibility for their learning in a well-equipped, supportive classroom setting.","fullyFundedDate":1686341377663,"projectUrl":"project/invest-in-tomorrow/7393022/","projectTitle":"Invest in Tomorrow","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Katy Bailey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6599015_orig.png?crop=720,720,x0,y216&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1565470714518","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6599015"},{"teacherId":6599015,"projectId":4356832,"letterContent":"The math manipulatives and activity cards requested for this project significantly enhanced student engagement and achievement in mathematics. By incorporating hands-on learning tools into daily instruction, students had frequent opportunities to explore and internalize key math concepts in a tangible, interactive way. The morning activity cards served as a meaningful warm-up that reinforced prior learning and prepared students for deeper mathematical thinking throughout the day. This consistent exposure helped keep foundational concepts fresh in students' minds and supported long-term retention.\r\n\r\nResearch shows that hands-on learning increases student understanding and confidence, particularly in abstract subjects like mathematics. The manipulatives allowed students to visualize and physically manipulate numbers, shapes, and angles—transforming math from a theoretical subject into a concrete experience. The angle measurement center deepened their skills in using protractors and solving for unknown angles, while the math brain electronic games provided quick, engaging review of standards-based skills. This comprehensive, interactive approach to instruction not only sharpened students' math abilities but also boosted their enthusiasm for learning, ultimately fostering greater academic growth and achievement.","fullyFundedDate":1575399267102,"projectUrl":"project/master-mathematicians-need-manipulatives/4356832/","projectTitle":"Master Mathematicians Need Manipulatives","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Katy Bailey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6599015_orig.png?crop=720,720,x0,y216&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1565470714518","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6599015"},{"teacherId":6599015,"projectId":5487836,"letterContent":"Since receiving the resources from my Reading is FUN-mental project, the energy around reading in my math classroom has completely shifted.
