Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A vast majority of my students come from high poverty families. More than 75% of my students are eligible for free or reduced lunch.
Our AVID/STEM Academy students are eager to explore the world of STEM and pursue STEM careers.
Even though most of my kiddos have to deal with various type of issues on a daily basis, they still come to school eager to learn.
These are amazing students who deserve as many chances as we can get them, so please help me give them proper access to technology and prepare them for the future!
My Project
After Hurricane Harvey we lost access to plenty of organizational materials needed in an AVID classroom. We will use the white boards for our AVID tutorial process. These are small group tutorial sessions led by the students. Here is where students clear any doubts and review points of confusion with the help of their peers. The tutorial process provides the support our students need to be successful in their AP Core content classes.
Our AVID/STEM students need the support of the organizational items listed below to properly prepare them for college.
Items such as folders, storage boxes, markers/color pencils will give them the organizational skills vital for a successful college career. Students work on annotations and Cornell Notes on a daily basis and need the markers/color pencils to keep their notes and work organized. Finally, our students keep very organized binders and rely heavily on hole-punched paper to keep up with their binder expectations.
My students will use the table as an AVID station, students will be able to get their TRFs, Cornell Notes, Calendars, pencils/markers/color pencils etc from our AVID station. The ball will help my students practice higher level questioning in a fun and creative way. Bouncing the ball around and completing the question stems will promote Costa's questioning.
