My students are from a rural community that provides rich experience and learning opportunities for them to be successful learners. As first graders, we have a lot of learning to do in a day. We are beginning readers learning how to decode and become more fluent. We are also beginning mathematicians learning how to problem solve and use critical thinking skills.
We try to be as organized and ready to learn as possible, but it is hard to keep all our papers and items in the right places.
Seat pockets and a mailbox system will help us stay organized with our materials. The papers we are proud of can go into our mailbox and be sent home on Fridays, and the papers we are still working on can be put into our seat pockets to work on at another time!
My Project
The mailbox organizer and seat pockets will help our students stay organized by having a place to put completed work they are proud of and are going to show off to their parents and by having a place to keep work that is still in progress. We do a lot of crafts, fun activities, reading phonics work, math pages, and writing journals. All of these items need a safe place to be kept so that they are not getting damaged or lost inside our desks which can get pretty disorganized!
The mailbox organizer and seat pockets will be durable enough to last for years of students to use and stay organized with.
We will be able to put our completed work inside our mailboxes to take home on Fridays. This will help us keep our work from getting ripped or lost. It will also help me have a safe place to put important papers that need to be sent home.
The seat pockets will give the students a sense of independence by having a place to keep their work that is still in progress. They can be responsible for their items without worrying about them ripping inside their desks. Since we keep our math books and reading books inside our desks, papers get ripped very easily. The new pockets will also help keep them from throwing away their work when we clean out our desks. Please consider helping us stay organized and responsible in first grade!
