My first grade classroom has been using "smart spot" flexible seating since the beginning of the year! I have seen a huge improvement in them taking ownership over their learning! We have a book called "Smart Spots" with rules of how to act when we are at our smart spots that we reviewed in the beginning of the year! The students love the idea of being able to pick their best spot to complete their work and being able to have choices only emphasizes their excitement to learn! So far I have bean bags, round balance disks (these have one smooth side and one rough side), bouncy bands around chairs, and a small rocking chair. I am wanting to get more options for my students to choose from like scoop chairs, soft spots, stools, and foam kneeling pads. The students are able to work anywhere around the room as long as they can hear my voice and see the smart board when needed. These students are very anxious to get some new choices for smart spots and that makes them more eager to learn! These "smart spot" flexible seating options will be able to provide many kids the best possible learning experience for years to come! Help us have the best learning experience possible!
