Our Kindergarten classrooms are each full of 18 young, excited 5 and 6 year old Kindergarten students. They come from diverse backgrounds and learning experiences, but are all equally excited about growing, learning, and becoming "big kids". We have students in our classroom that started kindergarten reading at first and second grade levels, as well as students who came in with zero English or educational backgrounds. Each room also contains students with special needs, and although this grant will help all students, we are hoping the tools bought through DonorsChoose.org will help our kids struggling the most to access their letters in a new way.
My Project
Kindergarten is such a fun year full of learning and growing. We learn so much throughout the year, where everything builds upon a solid foundation of letters. We have many students in Kindergarten who could use another way to access the alphabet besides using traditional pencil and paper. Our vision is to focus these magnetic boards with kids who struggle, not only with fine motor skills, but also with focus and understanding. We are excited to get these items into the hands of our young learners to get them excited, confident, and inspired to learn their letter names and sounds.
