I am a 1st grade teacher at Frances K. Sweet Elementary School, a Title I Magnet School. I teach all general subject areas: mathematics, reading and language arts, science, social studies, and writing. I believe that all students deserve an equal opportunity to receive the best education possible, and cost should never have to be a struggle when it comes to education. There are many educational experiences that I plan to provide for my students to make their learning connected to the real-world, hands-on, and engaging to their young minds. My students have many struggles in their families and home lives. Many of my students have parents and siblings that are either in prison or not around. I have students being raised by grandparents and other relatives, and while I cannot change the family struggles that are inevitable, I can control their experiences in my classroom to ensure that they are in a happy, fun and safe environment. I always want the best for my students and could use the support of DonorsChoose to do my very best in the classroom.
I plan to use the set of bin organizers for each of my table groups' supplies/materials such as scissors, crayons, pencils, and paper. I plan to use the dry erase boards for interactive and hands-on math and reading lessons. I currently have my students write on their desks, but the whiteboards would be a huge help to individualize learning and make it fun! The paper, pencils, and pencil sharpener is to ensure students have the essential materials and are prepared daily. I need paper to copy their activities onto, students will use the pencils to complete their work, and the pencil sharpener will be available for students to maintain sharpened pencils. I will be making it a job to sharpen pencils for the class at the end of each day. I will be using manilla folders to make portable files on the walls for reading/math centers to turn in their completed work. The plastic sheet protectors are for displaying learning goals and standards on the board for students to refer to on a daily basis. Finally, I have requested some reward materials (stickers, reward kit) for my students. I will use these materials to reward students for good behavior, birthdays, and table points.
I would appreciate support in getting these essential supplies to help my students and families receive the very best education and always be ready for each day.
This would also help me with my transition to the new school and grade. I am enjoying my transition, so far, and always strive to make it the very best I can for my 1st grade babies and families. My students will come to school ready to learn with these essential materials.
