This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a unique group of third graders. They are excited about learning and interested in the world around them. While they are only 8 and 9 years old, they are beginning to learn about a very difficult concept--how they learn best.
My students are a very energetic and inquisitive group.
They are interested in so many different concepts and love to learn about new things every day. School is a place where they can come to feel accepted, safe, and where they can work together with their peers in order to learn skills that will help them their whole life long.
My Project
The book collection will help expand and build on our existing classroom library. Our current classroom library consists of donations, garage sale finds, and books that I have personally purchased. Last year I began adding flexible seating options to my classroom. Students are able to find a seating option that helps them to focus and learn comfortably.
Students are given class time to read independently multiple times each week, and having a diverse classroom library is essential to ensuring students have access to a wide variety of books.
Being able to provide my students with a variety of seating options helps students to feel comfortable in their classroom environment.
With these new books and seating options I can provide my students with choices that will encourage a love of reading and a comfortable classroom environment.
