Science is life, and it is one of the most important and lasting subjects that students will encounter. They will use it forever and ever... at least that is what I want my students to believe. My goal as a high school Biology and AP Environmental Science teacher is to excite my students and encourage their interests in exploring the science field.
My students are an eclectic group of young adults that are eager to learn science by doing science.
My class is a mixture of high performing students, moderate students, and special education students, some of whom come from low-income families. We are a diversified family complete with students from all walks of life. Science is an expensive subject to teach, especially in a school district with a low budget. Science equipment can make a child's class experience hands-on and memorable... we only need the tools to make it happen!
My Project
The materials purchased from this project will help my students build an aquaponics system for our classroom. Students will help monitor water quality, record fish behavior, and track plant growth. The herb garden that we will start will be used in our infused water program at our high school. This truly will be a useful and collaborative project!
My goal as a teacher is to provide meaningful experiences for my students that will hopefully impact and carry over into their everyday lives!
My Biology and AP Environmental Science students will work with our self-contained classes to learn how to maintain a healthy lifestyle and grow a garden using an aquaponics system, which is something that can be used at home!
