Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are an amazing group of kids. They are resilient and wise beyond their years. Their neighborhood is a tough place to grow up in. For most of my kids, school is the most structured and safest place they experience, and they love coming to school each and every day.
Our school is a K-5 school that is in a low income area that is predominately Latino.
The students are receiving instruction in their second language, and many do not have anyone at home to help or support them. Their parents are working 2 or sometimes 3 jobs to provide for their children and do not have time to provide outside learning experiences for their children. Therefore, providing as many learning experiences for my students becomes imperative in order to increase their experiences and knowledge.
My Project
These social emotional books and tools will help make a big difference in the lives of my students. Many of my students have or are experiencing very traumatic things in their lives. Many do not understand or know how to express their feelings. By using these materials, I hope to help my students deal with their feelings and also help them be kind and empathetic towards others. By providing these tools, I can focus on the whole child and address social emotional topics and teach them mindfulness. I hope to give my students the tools and a safe place where they can address their feelings as well as help others.
