Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our STEAM school is the first of its kind in an impoverished area in our county. As a school community, we are trying to bring a world-class education to a population of students who are so truly deserving.
100% of our students receive free or reduced breakfast and lunches on a daily basis.
Majority of our students come from single family homes, foster care, or are migrant families who often struggle to make ends meet on a monthly basis. Our school provides our amazing students with tremendous learning opportunities through Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.
Due to the socio-economic status of the community in which we serve, many families can not afford to have their children participate in extra-curricular activities such as sports, visual arts, performing arts, etc. As a school community, we try and provide ample opportunities for our students to do these types of activities before school, during the school day, and after school. That's why our students need your help!
My Project
In our classroom, my students and I work together to build a strong relationship based on feeling safe, at ease, and comfortable with each other. Although our new school is very modern, the concrete floors in our classroom can make our learning haven feel nothing like a comfy space. The area rug, beanless bag chairs, inspirational quote pillows, and organization stations will allow students to feel more at ease, relax, and be able to let their visions come to fruition.
This comfortable space will not only provide students with the motivation to earn the use of it but will provide them with different opportunities for collaboration and will allow their ideas to flow in a more natural setting.
