Getting Cozy and Comfy in the Resource Room

Help me give my students a safe, comfortable place to be able to learn and destress. A place they know if they are hungry, they know there is something for them.

My Students

All of my students are on an IEP. They all have broken families, health impairments, ADHD, autism, behavior plans, or some other type of situation that makes them more vulnerable or less fortunate than the average student. The students I see need extra care, attention, and academic support.

To provide my students with academics supports, I need to first make sure they feel safe, understood, and most of all cared about - loved.

To do this is not always easy, especially if a teacher does not have the resources. The stability of coming to my classroom knowing they will be listened to, have a place to calm down and reflect, and having a snack when they are hungry is so important for their success - in and out of the school setting.

When schools shut down because of COVID, the majority of my students were unable to receive services and are now academically further behind. To be able to give them a special place, create great things they can feel proud of, and have the resources to help them achieve goals and manage behaviors on their own is my goal.

My Project

My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are not hungry, have engaging projects, and have a calming and safe place to complete work.

By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.

With these new supplies requested, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own instructional level. Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether their materials are going to work or not. Plus in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their literacy as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology!

The items I requested will give my students a safe place to go when they need to destress and reflect. A quiet tent with pillows and lighting will help them calm and feel safe. We have so many students who are not even in the program, come to the Special Education Resource rooms seeking snacks because they are hungry and know they can come to us for food.
