Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an amazing group of eager, bright and struggling young students that come from a variety of mixed backgrounds. My classroom demographic is made up of special education, English language learners, and general education students, although you would not be able to tell who is who. When we are working in the classroom, I encourage my students to work together and help each other along. There are no high or low groups, we are one always learning and growing group!

Our classroom is made up low-income students from all over the world!

We have children from Turkey, Sri Lanka, Russia, Pakistan, China and several other countries. Even though we don’t all speak the same language, we are a strong team that works together for everyone’s benefit. It's amazing how wonderful students can be to each other when they see someone is struggling with a task, especially when it comes to a language barrier.

Unfortunately more than three-fourths of our students come from low-income households. While some of our students are unable to afford the very basics of supplies we try our best to immerse them in technology!

My Project

My students will be able to read and get excited about things that are going on in the world. This will help them to broaden their horizons outside of what they see in their everyday life. There are wonderful articles available to students through Scholastic News. The students will be able to read about different events, important figures and other things that will spark their interest. Many of my students are below reading level so anything that will help them to spark their interest in reading can really help them both in short term and long term reading goals. Please help us spark their reading into a bonfire!
