Getting Comfy in the Listening Center

My Students

First grade is a mixed blessing. I have kids who are just learning to read, write, and count, while others have a slight head start. Our kids enjoy playing together, helping each other and learning about fellowship.

In this class, we are building a community where students have empathy for each other.

We are excited to be a part of a school where co-teaching will begin to happen in kindergarten and first grade this year. The work we general ed, teachers will be doing, will be ground breaking. We will be incorporating a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and other learning options. I am fortunate to have this opportunity.

My Project

Small group instruction is a big part of our school day. Students not meeting with the teacher work in centers. Their interests are always changing. We are very limited with what we have to offer. Our school media center does not currently offer a listening center. Having a listening center Students love to be read to so the use of a listening center will help while students work alone.

Listening to reading is an options through which hearing stories, children are exposed to a wide range of words.

This helps them build their own vocabulary and improve their understanding when they listen, which is vital as they start to read.
