Help me give my students flexible seating choices, like bean bag chairs and comfy pillows, to get them comfortable and focused while reading around the room.
My third grade students love to read and get their hands on all kinds of books. We take part in a reading workshop every day in which the class has the opportunity to independently read their favorite books. We learn together in small groups, confer with peers, and respond in our journals about the wonderful characters we are reading, and all of the reading strategies we are learning.
In my classroom I want my kids to be excited and engaged in their books.
I want them to be able to focus, thereby building their stamina and increasing their learning and enjoyment of reading.
My Project
The flexible seating options will give my students more choice and independence during the reading workshop. Currently, my students sit at their desks, on the floor, or on the carpet to do their independent reading. Some have difficulty focusing and remaining engaged in their books.
The flexible seating options like the bean bag chair and comfy pillows will help my students stay focused and engaged while reading, and increase their learning and enjoyment of their books!
The students will be able to move around the room, since the seating is lightweight and easy to manage. With various seating options, reading stamina will increase and students will be comfortable and excited about the independent reading time.
