Getting Comfy and Ready to Read

My Students

Many of my students do not have money for basic supplies, but that doesn't stop them from trying to learn everything they can. Usually, I have them bring a box of Kleenex to school as part of their school supplies but they can't afford it this year.

Although many of my students are deemed at-risk, they my wonderful second graders are trying very hard to learn English at the same time they are learning how to read but they struggle because they don't have support at home.

I teach second grade at an older, urban school where many of my students are the children of deployed military personnel.

All of my students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch, but we are not a Title I school and as a result, we lack the resources and opportunities of many other schools.

My Project

My students are learning virtually and it looks like they might continue to be out for a while longer. They might be missing out on going to the school library or curling up in our classroom reading corner but that doesn't stop them from discovering the joys of reading!

My awesome second graders are beginning to read independently and I want to reward them for their efforts.

I am asking for some inexpensive fleece blankets and color coded water bottles so my kids can get comfortable (at home) and read.

With help of contributions from donors, I plan to team these comfy, stress reducing items with some new books that I will deliver so my students can snuggle up over the holidays and enjoy reading.
