My Students
I teach at a public school in Philadelphia with an ever growing and changing community. Our school is growing larger and larger each year with a booming ESOL population. This past year alone, our school jumped from approximately 1600 students to 1900 students. It is the third largest school in the district and continues to accept new students with welcoming arms.
It is a small community within itself and would greatly benefit from much needed materials to support such a diverse set of students and needs.
With so many students, having enough and quality materials is often an issue and they deserve better.
My Project
My students deserve a clean, safe, and comfortable place to sit during meeting times, whole group, and read aloud. Having a clean and hygienic classroom rug during times of learning may not seem like a necessity, but a classroom rug is more than just a place to sit. It is a means to create community, communication, and collaboration within the classroom.
Having the opportunity to be out of a stiff sit for part of the day aids in helping with focus and high energy students.
It is really the home of my classroom where we can all sit cozily together and discuss what's on our minds, hold meetings, and learn and grow together.
