This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a group of eighteen kindergarteners. My classroom is special because my students receive instruction in both English and Spanish! The great thing about the students that walk into my classroom is that they come in as a blank slate. It's my job to make sure they walk out of my classroom at the end of the year with a love for learning. As a dual language teacher, I have to ensure that students acquire the knowledge they need in the English and Spanish language to be bilingual in their reading and writing. Besides the dual language aspect of my classroom, students have to meet the same expectations as those expected from the general education population at my school. Some people assume that this program is only for students that have a spanish speaking background. However, this assumption is false as my classroom is made up of a melting pot of cultures from around the world. It is truly a pleasure to able to teach my students every passing year!

My Project

My students need a circle time carpet where they can sit comfortably. The carpet that I currently have is stained and broken from many years of use. Sadly, it is difficult to fit all of my students on it at the same time since it needs to be bigger. This carpet is an essential piece of my classroom as it is where my students will gather for whole group activities such as storytime, circle time, whole group instruction, etc. This carpet will be a great addition to the classroom, helping to enhance our learning environment by ensuring that it is conducive to learning.
