My Students
My students are an amazing group of eager, bright and struggling, eight and nine year olds that come from a variety of mixed backgrounds. My classroom demographic is made up of forty percent special education students and sixty percent general education students, although you would not be able to tell who is whom. When we are working in the classroom, I encourage my students to move from group to group. If some students are stronger in math than in reading, I will have them work with some of the upper grade level students.
We have children from Turkey, Sri Lanka, Russia, Pakistan, China and several other countries.
Even though we don’t all speak the same language, we are a strong team that works together for everyone’s benefit. It's amazing how wonderful students can be to each other when they see someone is struggling with a task, especially when it comes to a language barrier.
My Project
My students will be able to read and get excited about things that are going on in the world. This will help them to broaden their horizons outside of what they see in their everyday life. There are wonderful articles available to students through Scholastic News. The students will be able to read about different events, important figures and other things that will spark their interest. Many of my students are below reading level so anything that will help them to spark their interest in reading, can really help them both in short term and long term reading goals. Please help us spark their reading into a bonfire!
