Help me give my students some exciting books to read during our classroom time book club. During this time I teach the students a variety of reading comprehension skills that they can transfer to all content areas.
My students come from various different economical and cultural backgrounds. They love coming to school because it is fun and the teachers are all very passionate. They have a wide range of disabilities. Some more highly functional than others. This project will benefit all my students in various ways. This year I am teaching in a new school, in a new state and have a new position. I will be teaching grades 4 through 7.
I am in need of more materials because I have never taught 4 grades at the same time.
Also, I feel my students will benefit from these new resources. Currently I am lacking some resources I feel are necessary for my kids to reach their individual goals.
My students are fun, friendly and eager to learn. Currently I am doing a book club with my 6th grade students with the book Wonder and they LOVE it. Therefore I am looking to get some more book sets relevant to my other grades.
My Project
My classroom is a place that my students really enjoy our reading clubs. They like to read independently and when I read out loud to them. These books will continue to enhance my passion for running book clubs and literacy circles with my students. I lack book sets and am picking books that I know my students will engage with. They discuss the chapters after they read and answer written response targets at specific reading comprehension skills based on their grade level and reading levels. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind-I have watched them the past few weeks of school read titles just like these, and I have also asked them what type of books they would enjoy reading.
With these new books, my students will continue to engage in discussions and debates as well as learn reading comprehension skills reading books they enjoy and can relate to.
The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent and group reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
