My Students

I am a teacher because of the children in our community. The culture my students are raised with here on the island of Hawaii gives them a deep understanding of respect. Our rural community also creates inquisitive minds that want to learn about places they have never seen. The past year of meeting on line at home has created large gaps in our students learning. My students have found a common ground in Art. Art is helping to boost their confidence once again in the classroom, which I hope will carry over into other subjects soon!

My Project

Having a space and the right tools can help students use art to investigate how to express feeling of how they are coping with this ever changing world.

Our classroom has florescent lighting, and often times the lights are left off to alleviate the harshness.

Lighting is a key element to artwork, and having a shade to cover the lights will help create a warm environment in which students can be comfortable to explore their feeling through art they will create.

The art supplies will give students the tools they need to be creative, and use art to work through feelings that may be confusing for them and difficult to understand during this difficult time of coming out of isolation, and trying to be "safe".
