This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
At E D we are creating leaders and inspiring greatness. As a Leader in Me School we are focusing of developing our students leadership skills. Over 325 students in grade Pre-K to 4th grade attend our school. Almost 85% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Many of our students are not meeting grade level expectations, and we are looking for new and innovative ways to meet their needs. All of our students have a great enthusiasm for learning!
My Project
All of our students visit the Library at least once a week to check out book, and work on their research and reading skills. My goal is to make the library a welcoming space that looks less like a classroom.
I want the library to be a welcoming and comfortable space where students want to learn.
By providing them with multiple seating options students are able to pick what works for them, therefore increasing their participation and learning. Not all kids find the "standard" seating option comfortable or conducive to learning. This project will provide "non traditional" seating for students. Students will be able to choose from wobble chairs and floor seats. Finding what works for them in order for them to be successful is an important skill.
