Getting Big Results From Micro:Bits

My Students

My students engage in hands-on learning projects daily. These projects involve the use of technology and engineering skills to build confidence in the engineering design process. For students not in the classroom or unable to afford the tools needed for our class, these tools will provide them an opportunity to continue learning without as much interruption. Putting kits together for students to use at home will allow them to be as much a part of the class as they can at a distance.

Our school is represented by students from over 20 different cultures and languages, and about 50% of our students live at or below the poverty level.

It is important to me to be able to help them develop skills and interests that will allow them to continue to grow and possibly find a love for technology or engineering...or both. To do this we need tools and my annual budget just does not provide this for us.

My Project

My students will have access to kits that allow them to learn to build circuits, code them, and even build their own robots. Students will get a kit with some basic add on materials and will be given assignments that they can complete using the kits. They will also be challenged to come up with their own ideas for building with the kits.

The students in our school represent a large cross section of the population of our district, and about 50% of them live at or below the poverty level.

Having access to tools like this is not possible if we do not provide them and I want all of my students to have this access. Students who are working at home will have a great deal of difficulty learning skills if we do not provide them with the materials, and this is important if we want to expand interest in technology and engineering topics. At home students will be able to mirror the projects that we choose to do at school, if we have access to these tools.
