Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The population of my students includes many who come from low-income families. This year in particular I have 4 students who are homeless and spend much of their after school time in my classroom, just trying to find a place they feel welcomed. They are high achievers and want to learn, regardless of the experiences they have outside of school.
Despite the hardships that they go through, my kids have bigger hearts than anyone I know.
Many use my class as a way to explore course material that they would never dream of seeing. College and higher education is not an option for some of my students and I want to give them as much of an opportunity as anyone else. I want to give them a creative space with as many tools as possible.
My Project
The materials listed here allow for students to look beyond their books. In every grade, these materials will allow for hands on learning in new, meaningful ways. All of these materials will allow the students who cannot afford to buy their own supplies a chance to have some readily available for them.
By donating, you are giving students a chance to change their outlook on education and on school.
These materials will help students who want to learn and want to push themselves beyond what others perceive of them, make learning fun and creative. They will be able to analyze, explore, and delve into new depths beyond what is simply on the page of a book or being lectured at them.
