My Students
My school is located in Philadelphia. It is a Title 1 school in a low-income area. Most students do not have necessary materials for school and it can make school difficult for them. My students are wonderful kids that work hard in school but are faced with many challenges and obstacles both in and out of the classroom. Even with the support and help from other teachers and the families sometimes are students are not equipped with the proper materials to help enhance their education.
Many of our first graders have not been exposed to an educational experience in pre-school or kindergarten.
This coupled with the lack of supplies and materials other students have, puts these misfortunate students at a disadvantage. As their teacher, it is my job to create an environment that can facilitate the growth of their molding minds.
My Project
The bean bag chairs will create a warm, comfortable and fun environment, inviting my students to want to come to the library and read.
The book rack and bin organizer will keep books and supplies easily accessible in an attractive, colorful manner.
Students will be able to find the supplies and books they need, easily and quickly because of the organized and neat manner being provided.
Hooked on Phonics will provide all students with an age appropriate medium to learn phonics at their specific level working at their own speed. I personally used this with my own daughter and speak from experience when I say it works and is a successful program in helping children learn the sounds and blends of our alphabet.
