My Students

I teach 2nd at a Title I school in South Carolina where a little more than half of the students come from low-income backgrounds and receive free breakfast and lunch everyday. Because most students come from low income households, they lack the opportunities to increase wellness and build strength.

The best part of my students is their willingness to learn and participate in group activities using music.

I believe that students learn much better when instruction is infused with opportunities to use movement and exercise. My lessons are created to improve a child's mind as well as their body.

My Project

Due to the evolution of technology, there are far more inactive children than ever before. It seems that many children today are more comfortable sitting and playing on a cell phone, tablet, or computer than exercising or playing outdoors.

I am on a mission to bring a love for healthy living choices to my students.

My school has clubs every week for students to participate in activities that they are interested in outside of academics. My club incorporates dancing and exercising to music. I would like to add weights this year to help students build balance and arm strength. With the 1 pound weights, students will follow the instructor with simple arm exercises and squats.
