When you enter our 21st century kindergarten classroom, not only will you see Play-doh, building blocks, and paints, you will also see tablets, interactive whiteboards, and laptops. My students are a busy group of learners, eager to grow their mindsets and challenge themselves to do better and be better every day.
Our class is a melting pot of cultures.
Many of my students have just moved to our country and are just learning English, while others have lived here all their lives, but are experiencing school for the first time. Our school is a Title I school with over twenty-seven languages spoken. We also have the privilege of teaching children from military families. We are a community committed to providing the best education possible to all of our amazing students.
My Project
In Kindergarten, so much of what we learn is through play. With these materials, I will be able to reinforce the concepts we learn in literacy, math, and health. Kids learn best when they can apply what they have learned and having a “store” will give the children a chance to apply all the academic skills I teach them. For example, the kids will be able to practice so many math skills such as counting and cardinalty, adding and subtracting, and money to name a few when they play pretend to purchase items at the store. The kids will also practice reading as they sort their items not to mention review important health and nutrition information when they consider what to buy. Most of all, the kids will be able to apply their learning in an engaging format that also fosters their social and emotional development and oral language as they learn to play with one another.
