Our school is located on Cleveland's West Side. My Pre-K is a Head Start site and all of the students must qualify to be in the program via the Head Start guidelines which means they are below the poverty level.
I have students who are African American, Latino, Caucasian and one little guy who only spoke Spanish when he first arrived.
He has since learned to speak many words and sentences in English!
We have usually had 20 children in our class and did begin our year at that number. However, 7 children have left our school for various reasons most of which are parents who got a job and the times for drop off/pickup no longer work for them. While we are very happy that parents have found employment, we were sad to see our friends leave for all day daycare sites.
Most of my students live with one or two parents but a few a living with an Aunt or Grandparent.
My class is wonderful! They like to take care of each other and help out. We keep them very busy throughout the day and they are very tired by the time nap arrives!
My Project
My students love to ride bikes and scooters. Currently, we have some, but by adding a few more to our collection means more children can ride at the same time. One of the trikes I picked lets a child give a friend a ride on a "school bus".
Since we do not have any type of balance activities, I thought the stepping stones would be a great new addition to our playground!
The rocket balls are a huge hit! We have had these before but over time they have worn out or been lost. We call these balls "fire balls"!
Outdoor play is a big part of Pre-K. We try our best to get the children outside every day that the weather allows. It is so beneficial to get fresh air and exercise.
