Help me give my students the experience of taking care of and tending to a classroom pet. We are asking for all the supplies (books, hamster cage, etc.) needed to provide them with this experience.

My Project

My students, 3rd through 5th grade gifted, have been begging for a classroom pet. They were asked to create a plan, list supplies needed, and tell me how it would be relative to growing them as learners and as people. They have decided that pets are a great way to learn responsibility, compassion, and attentiveness. They have listed jobs needed to care for a small pet and have promised to come up with a schedule to include all students in our gifted classes.

They also would like to use the pets as reading buddies.

This could be open to students from other classes as well. My students have also decided that once our pets are comfortable with children and being handled, they would like to offer them as calming buddies and reward time to our special needs classroom.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
