My students need 12 exercise balls to "get the wiggles" out during whole group and independent instruction.
This project expired on January 22, 2014.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
Do you remember what it is like when the teacher was teaching the whole class or you were working at your seat and you just had to be moving some part of your body to stay alert or awake? My students have sensory needs and need to be manipulating something throughout the school day.
These students with special needs are in a low-income school.
It is a diverse city school district in Upstate New York. The students have sensory issues where they need to be moving some part of their body most of the day in order to stay alert. The movement is usually with pencils or erasers. The students and I would like to direct the movement to an exercise ball to keep them more focused on the task at hand.
These exercise balls will allow the students to use movement in a positive way. They can direct their sensory issues to the ball instead of objects in their desk. They will be more focused if moving on the ball and listening to the teacher than they would be playing with something in their hands. The students will be able to follow teacher directions, whole group lessons and complete imdependent work in a timely manner because they are more focused during instruction. When the students are able to bounce slowly up an down during class, they are wiggling out the energy that would usually get them distracted during class time.
Please support this project to help the students get their sensory needs met.
With the exercise balls they can focus their movement in one area and will be less distracted with materials in their desk. These students with special needs need these exercise balls to stay focused during instruction and independent work. These students will stay more alert and complete more tasks at hand, and if this happens the possibilities are ENDLESS!
