This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are eager leaners! Nothing excites them as much as a game, an activity, or a project.
My students are a very enthusiastic and diverse group of sixth graders.
They come from all over the city of San Francisco, from many different elementary schools. They love to talk and write and get involved in different kinds of activities.
Many of my students have special needs, are still learning English, or are concrete and tactile learners. Game play is an exciting avenue for content introduction.
My Project
My students are challenging themselves to read at least fifteen books this semester. While we have many excellent books in the classroom, we never have enough copies of all of the most popular books to go around. So many students want to read Wonder! What they need are accessible texts that will increase their literacy levels while also hopefully inspiring lifelong enjoyment of reading for pleasure. Research supports the use of reading for enjoyment as a means to improve almost every academic area of students' lives. I want them to feel the same excitement that I felt every time a brand new copy of a great book landed in my hands. I am requesting a wide variety of popular literature titles for our class library.
