Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
There will be 26 curious, anxious to learn, English Language Learners entering my classroom in September. For many it will be their first time in school and a structured environment. Most of my children will speak and understand very little English.
Parents of my students are hard workers, wanting to provide the best life and opportunities they can for their children.
They want their children to do well in school. Unfortunately, as their English is limited, they cannot reinforce skills taught in school at home.
My Project
First Little Readers-Complete Library includes 5 copies of each book. The books will be used for small group reading instruction. The great illustrations and the easy text will be great for teaching reading to my kindergarten English language learners.
Lakeshore Nonfiction Sight- Word Readers will introduce my beginning readers to nonfiction text and sight words using wonderful color photos and simple text.
The Classroom CD/Cassette Player will replace our ancient cassette player that no longer works. In addition to playing all our kindergarten cd's and tapes, this player has 6 headphone jacks so it will also be used as a listening center.
Various puzzles and games were selected to teach and reinforce reading and math skills. Games such as Pop and Learn! Letters & Numbers will be used during small group instruction. Students will have fun learning to play cooperatively while mastering letters and numbers. Think Fun Zingo Sight Words was developed by educators to help students learn essential sight words. Several puzzles were selected to reinforce alphabet and numbers while encouraging hand-eye coordination spatial reasoning and problem-solving skills.
