Students in my class are studying multimedia, digital art, animation, graphic design, photography, video production, computer programming, 3D modeling, 3D animation and game design.
Students work independently and in collaborative teams to learn skills and complete projects. Students can design their own projects to focus their learning in areas they are most interested in learning.
Most of my students have never created an app, designed a game, used Adobe software - Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Animate, created inventions using digital electronics or written computer code.
Students will learn to use Micro:bits and computer programming to create pedometers to track their steps. Students will learn to write code to detect movement, measure temperature, create a compass, sense light and create music. Students will become more aware of their physical movement throughout the day and learn to write code. Students will learn problem-solving skills through creating their own inventions and troubleshooting their code.
In Their Own Words
Our goals include creating a pedometer to track our steps by learning to write computer code to program a Micro:bit. We will create inventions using Micro:bits and digital electronics. Our inventions will include a pedometer, compass, temperature sensor, motion detector and inventions we dream up . By tracking our number of our steps each day we will strive to be more active and healthy.
We will work individually and in teams to program and create digital electronics. We will help each other troubleshoot our computer code and designs. We will present our inventions to our class, teachers and school employees. Our digital electronics will be tested by our classmates and other students at our school.
We will learn how to program the Micro:bit and create digital devices using microbit.org, tinkeracademy.com, https://makecode.microbit.org, https://www.microbit.co.uk, https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/sparkfun-inventors-kit-for-microbit-experiment-guide, and other online resources. This project is important because we will learn how to write computer code, think logically and improve our health by tracking our steps. We will be more active by going outside to track temperature and use our digital compass. We will move around in our classroom in order for the digital devices to sense movement, sense light, and as we create and test our inventions. This project is import because we will learn to write computer programs and the importance of movement to our health.
