I teach special needs students in an Inclusion Kindergarten setting in North Carolina. Our school is a Title One school and serves many low income families.
Kindergartners strive for organization. I encourage students to be independent as it provides them with a sense of responsibility and teaches them to be self-reliant. To assist with students self independence, I would like to add a literacy center management chart and 24 sets of student work organizer for my classroom.
The literacy organizational chart will be used to give students a choice in selecting their daily centers. It is important for kindergartners to have a choice in their everyday learning. This chart will be used for other subjects as well. Once students select their center, they will be able to pick up their work organizer to assist them with their daily activities. Also, the work organizer will have books for the students to read out loud when finished their work. While students are in independent centers, this will allow me extra time to work with students one-on-one/groups who are having difficulties with current/prior activities. The student organizer would allow the student to have a place to store their work/material when completed. Since I am an Inclusion teacher, the organizational chart and work organizer will assist with teaching my students how to work independently no matter what their disabilities may be.
Thanks for taking the time to read my proposal request. This proposal will help the students not only now, but for the rest of their life, teaching them how to gain their self independence.
