Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is located in the South Bronx of New York City. It is a challenging neighborhood in which to grow up, but my students are vibrant and strong and they can succeed despite the odds. With every generation that makes it, they will in fact change those odds for the generations that come after them.
My Project
We try to get the kids out in the yard as much as possible. They need time out of the school building to move around and get some air. While they are outside, I do not like to see them leaning on the fences or just sitting or standing around.
I want to see them playing volleyball, soccer or basketball.
At the moment, we have a small bag to hold a few balls and there never seems to be enough to go around. My students have to be the first to call for the balls or they get left out. I would like to get more balls so that everyone who wants to play can play. Team sports are helpful in developing cooperative skills that will benefit my students in and out of the classroom.
