Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students learn in different ways and at different rates. Most come from homes that have a primary language other than English. They have the opportunity to act as the bridge from the last century to this. In some ways, they are the pioneers of their families.
My students have so much to learn in 2018, including English.
Every student in my classroom is learning so much every day. They are finding ways to get past the obstacles in their way. I want to support their journey to Language proficiency.
My Project
My new reading series is rigorous and has built in English Language Learner support, but more is needed for the non-English speaker. To utilize every instructional minute, it would be great to have activities and media that new English learners could work on independently.
Did you know there was a Brain Pop ELL program?
Having a classroom subscription to Brain Pop ELL and Brain Pop Jr. will fill in any idle time for English Language Learners. Adding flash cards with the Hot Dots pen would give my ELL students independent practice with phonics, blends, and vocabulary development. These programs will assist students with their emerging language skills.
