Help me give my students comfy floor seats, a five-drawer chest, a storage bench, and other supplies for a space where they can relax and enjoy a good book in their own language without distractions.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
The taste for reading can be acquired. I want to create a space for my newcomers where they enjoy spending time to help them develop a love of reading. Generally, when I am reading, I need a quiet space without distraction, so I can only assume this is true for others as well.
I want my newcomers to acquire a taste for reading by creating a space that will draw them in.
In this space, I am placing flexible but relaxing seating options which include fold out floor seats with a back rest and a bench with storage for books, fluorescent light covers, and colorful strip lights to add a calming effect.
The noise canceling headphones will give my students the added quiet needed to focus on their reading materials. The fluorescent digital clock will allow us to see and keep track of time. We will also use the storage drawers to store books, writing materials, flashlights, and additional plushies as reading buddies.
The books in Spanish will allow my students a chance to pick up and read the same books their peers are reading. This will give both groups a chance to share and learn vocabulary in another language. This area will not only help students get into the groove of reading, but it will cultivate lifelong reading habits.
