My Students

I teach STEM to over 500 students in grades Pre K- 5th.

We are a diverse population.

There are over 15 different languages spoken. It is a title 1 school, where students receive free breakfast and lunch. We are ranked the top 10 schools with the highest number of homeless students. We also have Gleaners Food Bank that comes to our school once a month.

Despite their home life and language barrier, the students at our school are very eager learners. Many come to us with limited background knowledge and lack of school experiences. I want the students to be able to use their imaginations and experience what it is like to be an engineer.

My Project

Students will be able to use their imagination and fine motor skills to build and create various things using Gears, Straw Builders, Mental Blox and Zooawa Building Toys. They will be able to use what they learned about the engineering design process to draw a plan, create it, improve and make changes to their designs. This is a fun way to engage students in STEM.

Students in upper elementary focus on simple machines.

The Lego Simple and Powered Machines Set will allow students to explore this concept further and help them when it comes time to design and create Rube Goldberg Machines.

I incorporate coding into my lessons. By using the Coding Robots, students will be able to have a better understanding and be able to have a hands-on experience.

I would really like to add more books to my STEM library to spark students interest in STEM and get them excited about STEM challenges.
