This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are happy, energetic learners who love to learn! They are diverse in their learning and possess unique personalities that keep them going everyday. They have encountered a few setbacks in their learning so far but they are slowly getting the appropriate support they require to continue learning.
My students are at-risk students and qualify for free and/or reduced lunches.
They are all reading at least one full reading level below grade level. They have encountered challenges along their learning but slowly continue to show progress. They are bursts of energy just waiting to blossom!
My Project
My students are 1-2 years below their grade in reading. To help close the reading gap, we will be using guided reading levels. Each student will first be assessed on their independent reading level and will then read books at his/her just-right reading level everyday. We will use "traditional" reading books in class but will also read on-line books through our school's reading program. In a few weeks, when students show progress, they will be reassessed for the next reading level.
Additionally, using Chromebooks on a daily basis will give students access to online resources that they otherwise will not have.
It would be wonderful if they also had the opportunity to access additional reading programs (aside from our school's reading program) online that will get them excited about reading everyday.
