Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are brave, curious, and full of energy. They make things different and exciting. While reading and writing is a challenge for most of them, they approach their work with positive attitudes and perseverance. They are caring, kind, and have created a classroom community where we can all strive for our best and help each other along the way.
I teach one hundred kind and curious students.
A majority of them are not reading at grade level and are English language learners. They all receive special services including, but not limited to, reading assistance, academic/behavior support and free lunch.
Our school is in a vibrant and loving community with a wide variety of cultures and traditions. While it has a lot to offer, the students still face challenges of poverty and gang violence. Despite all the trials they face outside of school, my students come ready to build relationships, grow their skills and achieve their goals. We celebrate wins together each day.
My Project
High schoolers are tasked with a full day of rich knowledge, rigorous curriculum, and little breaks. It can be hard to focus and tune in during long days.
The fidget toys will focus out brains while the art supplies will focus our thinking!
With little resources and supplies, kindness from Donors Choose helps keep my class going. We have been using only "skin color" sets of markers, and the kids are sick of it!
With assignments and opportunities to get creative and messy, life is hard with limited colors and mediums. Help us brighten up our special space, and get the wiggles out!
