My Students

I teach in an elementary school that serves 538 students, grades 1-5. They live in a small, rural town where everyone knows everyone. They love to help each other and work together--their sense of community is inspiring. They also get so excited about working with technology, particularly when it means they get to use technology build and create.

Unfortunately, many of my students lack access to materials that give them adequate experience with 21st century skills.

I would like to provide them with as many opportunities as I can to work with technology so they are prepared to grow as productive and capable citizens.

My Project

Ozobots are coding robots that students can use both with our without an internet device. They have sensors that can "see" colors, which allows them to follow paths, change color, change direction, and do tricks! Students can create paths with markers and paper or they can code the robots online.

I plan to use these robots to help my students create and share their work with others in an environment that is fun and positive, where they can build confidence along with 21st century skills.

They will practice working as a team to solve problems with puzzles and mazes. They will practice sequencing with storyboards. They'll design and build by using the Ozoblockly app to create digital paths the Ozobots can follow. There's so much they can do with these versatile little robots!
