Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school empowers 538 students in grades pre-k through five to follow their dreams. One hundred percent of students fall below the poverty line and are provided with free breakfast and lunch. Many of the students at our school strive to be the first college graduates in their families. However, many students are English Language Learners and thus struggle with reading.
Many students come to school and talk about hearing gunshots last night, their parent being incarcerated, or their cousin getting killed in a drug-related incident.
Despite the odds... I have 23 scientists, mathematicians, artists, authors, and readers in my classroom this year. My students are incredibly special because regardless of what language they speak or what their home life is like, they always look out for one another, try their best, and come to school with a smile every day.
My Project
Supplies are running low. As a first grade teacher, it is my job to keep the classroom clean for all of my students which means I need plenty of supplies to ensure their health and mine. The flu, stomach bugs, and head colds are running their course through Connecticut. I want those germs to stay away from our classroom. I am requesting Lysol sanitizing spray, Anti-viral Kleenex, Quill screen cleaning wipes, Softsoap Antibacterial soap, Clorox disinfecting wipes, a Bissel Natural Carpet Sweeper, Clorox Disinfectant spray, and Purell hand sanitizer.
I clean all the tables in my classroom at least once a day.
I also use the disinfectant spray to keep the air and all other surfaces germ free once a day. Keeping our classroom clean helps my students maintain their attendance, which leads to more learning.
The carpet sweeper will be great for when students spill food during breakfast. We pick up the large pieces and the mice pick up the small pieces. The mice will need to find a new place to snack.
