Geometric Designs

My students need compasses so they can construct geometric figures. Compasses are needed for math projects such as daisy designs, string art and golf courses.

My Students

One of my teaching goals is to help my students love math. I like to do projects which use the concepts they have learned. They tend to be more excited about math if they can see a real world application or if they can create something with it.

The junior high school where I teach is located in Utah.

It is 7th through 9th grade. The wonderful thing about teaching 9th graders at a junior high is that they are still eager to learn and are just big kids. Consequently, they like to have fun and participate in learning activities.

My Project

My students will use the compasses to put sprinklers on their golf course design. They will use the compasses to put fixtures on their house design. Again, they will use compasses to put a round about on their city design. They can also create daisy designs and mandalas with their compasses.

My hope is that my students will be able to see a purpose in the math concepts they are learning, feel confident in their math ability and have fun along the way.

I want them to feel that MATH ROCKS!!!
