My students are always so excited to get to explore a science topic with their lab groups. Even better is when we have enough supplies for them to explore and experiment on their own! It ensures that every single one of my students is engaged in figuring out the science behind a phenomenon. That is what the magnets in this project did for my students. \r\n\r\nWith these magnets, students are able to independently plan and perform magnetism experiments as they work to figure out how magnetic forces work to impact matter. This is a recipe for 100% student engagement, which boosts learning and excitement in my classroom. Students also use the magnets to practice their modeling skills. \r\n\r\nThe jolly ranchers helped my students understand the advantages and disadvantages of different ways that living things pass on their genes, and they got to enjoy a sweet reward afterward. Not to mention, they were old and boring. One of my first tasks was to pull these books and make a special section for them.\r\n\r\nSkip ahead a couple of years, and our Spanish speaking population is exploding. Many of our new students are not literate in Spanish, which research has shown, makes learning English even more difficult. Working with our ELD teachers, I started building my selection of books in Spanish so our new students could read to practice their native language and for enjoyment. \r\n\r\nThe books you provided are an exciting addition to our library. Now that our Spanish section is more diverse and appealing, the teachers in my school are encouraging the Spanish-speaking kids to check out more books and utilize our collection.
