My Project

I’m the librarian at a busy high school, and I want to add something rock-solid to our library: a real rock and mineral collection. There’s nothing like holding a shiny piece of quartz or a hunk of lava rock in your hand to make learning click. Plus, let’s be honest—rocks are way cooler in person than in pictures (and they don’t even need Wi-Fi to work!). By keeping this collection in the library instead of a single classroom, every student gets a chance to explore it. Science students can see the difference between igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks, while art students might be inspired by the colors and textures. Even students just hanging out at lunch might discover that geology rocks—literally.

Hands-on learning is powerful when students can touch, compare, and examine real specimens, it makes science stick in a way no chart or video can.

These little moments of discovery often spark the biggest curiosity, and I want that spark to be available to all of my students, anytime.

With your help, I can build a collection that turns our library into a mini geology museum with the rock collections. My students deserve those “wow” moments, and a set of rocks and minerals is the perfect way to give them something solid (pun absolutely intended) to explore.
