Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

Soul to Sole and gellin' in the classroom. I teach 6th grade life science in a school where 80% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. My students are extremely eager in learning and ask MANY questions on a daily basis.

My students excel with hands on experiments because it grasps their attention. The supplies are very limited in my school and my resources are minimal. We are faced with limited time in class so maximizing the learning environment with experiments helps.

We need books that help my students better understand mixtures and solutions. This will involve more creativity and allow students to benefit as they move on to the next grade. My students will actually have more fun in school and maintain knowledge of life science and a little chemistry. The experiment consists of using gelatin to show that enzymes will be released from the pineapple. When enzymes are released, the gelatin will not solidify. Each cup used in the experiment will serve as our make shift beaker to test fresh pineapples and canned pineapples for the amount of enzymes they release during the experiment.

Your help with this project will be greatly appreciated by myself and MY students. Knowing that some people consider education very important, deserves acknowledgment everyday. I am thankful that donors are willing to invest their time into helping all students.
