Gathering to Learn

Help me give my students a soft, supportive environment in our classroom on which to gather to learn, relate, discuss, stretch, compliment and challenge each other with a carpet large enough for 25 students.

My Students

My students are a diverse group of learners from all walks of life and experiences. My second grade students are highly motivated and engaged learners. They are quirky, intelligent, passionate, caring, energetic and challenge me as we navigate our learning paths together. I am so excited to be teaching them this school year!

My students learn life skills as we work together, including how to embrace a growth mindset, empathy, social justice, respect and citizenship, all necessary for success in life.

My Project

In the past year, my carpet where we gather for our daily morning meeting, circle discussions, birthday celebrations and choral reading was not large enough for all of my learners. At times, we had to sit on the floor instead. As students grew through the year, this became even more telling. I would like a large, new carpet that will be big enough for all of us.

This large, warm, colorful carpet which seats 25 students will be big enough to foster all of us when we gather.

The shape we will make together will have no beginning and no end, placing all of us on even ground, as equal individuals. I also have requested a rolling desk so I can be flexible moving around the room as we learn. I rarely sit down this is key for me as I continually move around and support my learners.
