I am a school counselor in a low-income, high-poverty school district. An increasing number of my students have parents/guardians who are incarcerated or are in rehab and many experience food insecurity, housing insecurity and homelessness in addition to a lack of adequate medical care.
More and more, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.
Despite this, school is their safe haven. It is a place where they come to learn both academic and soft skills to carry with them in life.
In addition, many carry multiple diagnoses and find a traditional classroom challenging. My hope is to offer options and support for students to achieve goals related to academics, social-emotional learning, self-esteem, and behavior regulation.
My students and I thank you.
A table seems so simple. But a table that is the right shape and size can make all the difference when working with students. My office space is a warm, cozy space. It serves a variety of purposes. It's a meeting space for 504 or IEP meetings, a spot where outside providers and agencies can meet with parents to plan services. It is a space where. Where a child's stakeholders can all come together on their behalf. It's a space where students come together to practice new skills in a small, safe space. It is also a place where students can share their worries and their triumphs.
With your donations, my students and their families will have a more comfortable space to meet, work and plan for the future.
A table is a place to gather together and get work done. With this new table I will be able to just that!
