My students need a rug to support their early development of discussion.

Hooray! This project is fully funded
I teach 1st grade at a wonderful public elementary school! I take pride in my school's wide diversity of students. At the tender age of 6 years old, my students are sponges, absorbing as much information as they can! I want to encourage leadership and know I am blessed to be in the presence of children who have bright futures! Just like any diverse group of students, it is not just their backgrounds that are different but their learning styles. The more variety of materials I can incorporate in my classroom, the better chance I have of ensuring that each lesson reaches each child.
My students are coming to me as kindergarteners transitioning to first grade. I feel if I had a large rug for them to gather around for story time, and have that "Turn and Talk" aspect to their learning, it would ease that transition.
With such a huge shift to curriculum, I am trying to also aid their emotional development.
These students need to see a bright and happy space for their learning, and I am determined to create the best environment for them.
This classroom rug will be used every morning for calendar time, and to talk about how everyone is feeling that day. This rug will also be an enormous part of Read- Alouds, where we can really dig deep into the text with discussion.
