Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are creating an indoor space for students to access during recess. Our goal is to create a space where students can relax and engage in arts and games with peers. We are teaching them the fine art of healthy socialization. Our goal is to reduce playground behavior referrals. We are looking to give alternatives to our sports-themed play outdoors.
The art supplies and games will help facilitate organized activities.
These activities will help students learn to work in cooperative groups and build their social-emotional skill set. We will use the modeling clay to enhance our sensory area in the “Tiger Den” often our students seek out sensory input resulting in negative behaviors on the play ground. Giving them a healthy alternative aligns with our positive behavior interventions
Data shows us that our students are struggling to make real-life social connections and are in need of concrete social skills training. This fully stocked Tiger Den is a vehicle to teach these skills.
