My students and I really enjoyed reading about Roz's journey and how it related to the world around us. As we read, we explored multiple academic and social topics across our curriculum. In Language Arts, we worked on vocabulary, reading comprehension strategies, character analysis, elements of fiction, cause and effect, visualization, figurative language, problem/solution and writing. We did all of this not only by reading the book, but utilizing numerous activities that helped the students fully understand the messages/topics being presented in the text. One of the activities that we did was to have Shared Inquiry discussions. The students were, first, presented with open ended questions where they were asked to \"dive deep\" into the text to answer the questions and use textual evidence to support their thinking/opinions. The discussions that followed encouraged the students to listen to one another, build on their thinking, and create a broader understanding as a community of learners.\r\n\r\nThe Wild Robot Protects also lends itself well to STEM. As we read, we encountered topics such as the fight against pollution, global warming and environmental conservation. As an extension to the novel, students were asked to choose one of the animals that Roz encountered and, with a partner, to research. Their research consisted of basic information on the animal, how pollution has impacted them and what can be done to help protect these animals. They were asked to create posters displaying the information they discovered and presented it to the class. They were so excited for this project and worked hard on their final projects.\r\n\r\nThis book also lends itself well to SEL topics such as friendship, leadership, peaceful problem solving, resilience and courage. Students talked about these topics and how they, as individuals, can make a difference by taking action and making their community/world a better place for people and animals. \r\n\r\nI feel that this book made a powerful impact on my students. Not only did they gain an awareness of what is going on in the world around them by also the knowledge of the power they have to affect change....just like Roz! Thank you for providing this opportunity for my students to learn and grow as scholars and future leaders!","fullyFundedDate":1760738099767,"projectUrl":"project/the-wild-robot-protects-environmental-c/9528855/","projectTitle":"The Wild Robot Protects! That first day felt like a celebration, students put their bows and music on the stands without having anything fall, placed their book with ease, and adjusted the stand to their height. The musicians have been so excited to learn and play music since getting the new stands. \r\n\r\nOne memorable classroom moment came when a student carefully placed her violin bow on the new stand to turn the page without it slipping and laughed in a delighted surprise. That small victory quickly spread: classmates tried it too, and I watched confidence build as they practiced setting up and organizing their bows and music independently. That reliability meant fewer interruptions and more time for music making.\r\n\r\nThe next step for our musicians is to learn new songs that will strengthen their technique using the stands as a steady foundation for growth. I plan to introduce multicultural repertoire that reinforces good posture and technique. TPT has been a life saver in my classroom and has made learning more enjoyable for my students. I have used TPT for lessons and activities across the entire curriculum. It is a time saver and has materials correspond with what I am teaching.\r\n One resource I have used a lot is the interactive notebooks for reading and math. These templates are reproduced for the kids and we constructed a notebook full of activities and notes that the students can look back on to study. I also use a lot of art projects from TPT.
